Gary Curry has spent 20 years in hospitality, first with major brands, now as COO and co-owner of Heron Hospitality, a growing independent hotel group in North Carolina. The portfolio spans four distinct properties. Three of them are currently using RoomPriceGenie and the fourth is a branded property near the university in Wilmington. The Harvey is a high-end eBoutique hotel in historic downtown New Bern with a fully digital check-in experience; Pony Island Inn, a 49-room island retreat in Ocracoke with deep local roots; and the Atlantis Lodge, a 44-suite oceanfront icon in Pine Knoll Shores built in 1963 and beloved for its mid-century modern character.

The Challenge

Gary had always practiced dynamic pricing but doing it manually across three properties was unsustainable. Several times a week, he'd scan competitors on Google Hotels, review historical rates, and update his PMS, ResNexus, by hand. Despite the effort, he frequently ended up over- or underpriced, and occasional input errors made things worse. Underpricing left money on the table; overpricing pushed guests away sometimes for good.

As the portfolio grew, it was clear the process wouldn't scale.

The Trigger

When ResNexus announced integrations with a couple different RMS’s, Gary evaluated both. The deciding factor was a conversation with Leslie Hoy at RoomPriceGenie. Her hands-on industry knowledge and honest take on competing tools resonated immediately and they both arrived at the same conclusions independently.

The Solution

Onboarding was straightforward. Gary, his general managers, and some of the entry-level team members picked up the platform quickly. RoomPriceGenie now runs continuously across all three properties via ResNexus, adjusting rates in response to live market conditions. Regular strategy calls with the RoomPriceGenie team have become a valued part of Gary's revenue routine.

The guest impact is tangible too. More accurate pricing means fewer lost bookings, and Gary has noticed guests returning to properties they'd previously skipped.

The Result

Heron Hospitality started with RoomPriceGenie in June 2025, a tough moment for the industry, marked by tariff uncertainty and a government shutdown that weighed on travel demand. The Atlantis Lodge joined only in late September 2025, so the metrics below cover only the two established properties.

Even against that backdrop, the results are clear.
- Year-to-date, occupancy is up 30.27%
- RevPAR has grown 25.44%
- Over the trailing twelve months (June 2025–June 2026), occupancy is up 7.79% and RevPAR up 8.40%
- 6–12 hours per week put back into running and growing the business
