Oliver Shale – Business Development

In our Meet the Genies series, we give you the opportunity to get to know the friendly faces that make RoomPriceGenie more than just an algorithm. Today, we introduce Oliver Shale, who is based out of London and is a member of the Business Development team at RoomPriceGenie.

What is your role at RoomPriceGenie?

My role is Business Development Representative for the United Kingdom and I started my journey with RoomPriceGenie in July of 2022.

What is your background?

I graduated from a specialist hospitality university in Switzerland mid-way through 2021 and since then have been laying the foundations for a career in sales and development. I have had jobs for both small and large companies and have learned the basic skills necessary to excel in the area. Now I am looking to build on my knowledge and truly bring something new to the company.

What do you think makes the RoomPriceGenie solution unique?

I believe that the solution is unique as its focus is centred around the boutique hotel business model. It is tailored for those who are just dipping their toes into the world of pricing technology and so it is very easy to use. It also has proven results, and for the price, a very logical choice.

What is something that hotel owners have to deal with that you want to fix?

Having grown up in the boutique hotel space, I am aware of the time and effort that goes into setting the right prices; are they too high, are they too low, never really knowing if you’ve made the right choice. If I could fix anything it would be to remove the burden of decision from the revenue/hotel managers and make the process carefree.

What’s the coolest thing you are working on right now?

I have spent a large portion of my young adult life moving around the UK with my family, the coolest thing I’m working on is contacting hotels that I know and have been to and trying to share with them something that is truly special.

What is your favorite and least favorite thing about working in hospitality technology?

My least favorite thing about working in the hospitality tech industry is probably knowing how useful the tool is and not being able to share it with everyone. Having spent a lot of time talking to hoteliers, a significant proportion of them will shut off to the idea of new technology, and knowing how useful this solution is, that can be frustrating.

The best thing about working in the space is definitely getting to help hotels increase their revenue. Seeing the positive effects of something like this is what makes the days worthwhile.

What are the values that drive you?

I’m motivated by reaching targets, as I imagine most people are, but something perhaps not all have been lucky enough to experience is the motivating factors of a great team of people. I want to do well for them, so that we can all share in each other’s successes. That is what I work for.

What three words would your friends use to describe you?

Friendly, Driven, Loyal

What’s the best advice you were ever given?
If you love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life.
If you could write a book about your life, what would the title be? 

The unbearable weight of handsomeness – A story of mild delusion

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend? 

Seeing friends at a dinner party, sharing some good food and wine. Or traveling somewhere especially with my loved ones.
