More from Meet the Genies! In this weeks behind the scenes look at the Genies behind RoomPriceGenie, we bring you Kevin! Kevin is a data scientist, avid skier and all-round nice guy. Our team are what keeps this machine turning and Kevin’s keen eye for detail is no exception.
What is your role at RoomPriceGenie and how long have you been with us?
I work as a Data Scientist and have been with RoomPriceGenie for 4 months.
What is your background in?
I have an Engineering degree in Medical biotechnology. I also have a bit of computational biology/bio-engineering experience.
What do you think makes the RoomPriceGenie solution unique?
The clever adaptation of market intelligence models from the finances sector into a lean and efficient performing pricing tool for small hotels.
What is something that hotel owners have to deal with that you would like to fix?
Data shows that small to medium sized hotel owners prioritize offering a quality experience to their guests above all else. Pricing is a fundamental part of the hotel business, not only to sell rooms but also to position their property in the preferred market, attracting the clients they target. In the ever more data driven world, larger hotels have an arsenal of (dynamic) pricing methods that is not be available to smaller hotels. Time to level the playing field and give David (the small hotels) the stones to fight the giants (large hotels).
What is your favourite and least favourite thing about working in the hospitality industry?
The direct impact and positive feedback is very motivating, hotel owners are really benefitting and happy with RPG’s solution.
A little more...
Who inspires you?
Everyone, understanding the aspects of what drives people and what makes them tick inspires me. I’d argue no single person embodies the exact person I would like to be, yet everyone has noteworthy and commendable traits.
What are the values that drive you?
Persistent self-improvement and passion.
If you could write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?
I believe we should not search for happiness, human nature creates a hunger that is represented in ‘wants’. When releasing all things you want (whilst keeping a decent level of wealth to maintain humanity) you are left with happiness. Happiness cannot be found externally.
What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Proactive, critical & curious.
What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?
My two passions are Skiing and reading books, undoubtably you’ll find me doing one of those two things. Although you won’t find me doing both things at the same time 😉
Thank you Kevin, you certainly are a man of many layers! The team at RoomPriceGenie would like to thank you for all you do. Come back soon to meet more of the friendly faces behind RoomPriceGenie and be sure to get in touch if you’d like to find out more about what we get up to and how we could help you.
